الدكتور عدنان محمد مروّة

Jbaa, South Lebanon · American University of Beirut, 1957–2022

Professor of OB/GYN, AUB Minister of Health (1982) Dean, Faculty of Medicine WHO Consultant Infertility & Reproductive Medicine Medical Ethicist King Faisal Medal Recipient

Professor Adnan Mohamad Mroueh stands as one of the most distinguished physicians and academic leaders to emerge from the Mroue family of Jbaa. A son of South Lebanon, he dedicated his entire professional life to medicine, education, and public service — spending over six decades in association with the American University of Beirut, the institution he first entered as an undergraduate student in 1957.

Graduating with his MD with Alpha Omega Alpha honors in 1961, Dr. Mroueh completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at AUB, then pursued fellowship training at UCLA and Yale University before returning to AUB as a faculty member in 1968. He rose to become a world-renowned authority in infertility and reproductive endocrinology, serving countless families across Lebanon and the Arab world with both scientific rigor and deep compassion.

Beyond his clinical achievements, Dr. Mroueh was a towering figure in Lebanese public life. Appointed Minister of Health, Labor, and Social Affairs in 1982, he brought the same principled commitment to governance that defined his medical career. He later served as Vice President for Health Affairs and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at AUB, shaping a generation of physicians and strengthening Lebanon's healthcare infrastructure through some of the country's most challenging decades.

Honored in 2022 by the AUB Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology as "the father, the physician, and the mentor" for 50 years of dedication, Dr. Mroueh leaves a legacy that extends from the consulting room to the lecture hall, from the halls of government to the pages of international medical literature. He is the recipient of a medal from King Faisal and the Lebanese Order of Merit — Commander Rank, tributes to a life spent in selfless service to Lebanon and its people.
